Summer at Mom's Quilt and a Give away

I meet my goal for finishing the Quilt in January by a stitch.
Finished to hand sew the binding on last night. Great.
So this coming week it will go to the post office and be send to a special person . And no, that is not the give away. Lol.
And here are a few pictures.

Lisa our new puppy (she is now 6 month) gives me the impression she does not like me to do patchwork. I mean she likes the Quilts. When ever one is laying around she claims it as hers but maybe she does not like me to work on them.

When I got home from work one day I found my magazine with the pattern for the summer at Moms Quilt destroyed.
She had the choice of a news magazine, TV guide and my patchwork magazine on the table.( not that she is aloud to get anything from the table) but she choose my patchwork magazine. Look what she did.

I'm very happy, that at this point the quilt top was finished and just needed to be quilted.
But who can be mad at such a precious face.
My fault for leaving the magazine on the table anyway's.

So and now for my give away.
When I been in my sewing room to look, what to work on next, I thought. Way to much in this little space.
There are so many pattern I will never be able to do, or I did them and won't be doing them again.
There are so many books I once liked and not any more or I read them before.
So I decided every last day of the month for this year, I will give one or two things away. So if you do not mind that the book or pattern was used or read, leave me a comment and you might be the winner of that item.
So for the last day in January I give away a Fat Quarter Friendly Pattern and a Fat Quarter.
I still remember when I bought this pattern way way back than, I liked it at that time( the quilt on diplay there looked great).
It was at the Santa Clara Quilt Convention in 2007. I never did get around to do it and I don't thing I will. So if you are interested in this pattern just leave me a comment. Tell me if you have things like that in your sewing room too. I'm looking forward to read your story's.
On the following Sunday ( 3rd Feb.) I will let the number generator do its thing and will announce the winner.

So have fun and have a great week.

Progress in the summer at mom's quilt

I finished the first border for the quilt. Yeahh.

I really like the outcome. To applique the leaves and the vine I used Avalon. Avalon is a water-soluble film. I did this for the first time like this. Not bad at all.
sorry about the glare

So after the border was finished I could not wait to attach those to the quilt.
The picture is not great because the light in the room is not so good.
But I still want to show.

All it needs know is the last border with the half squares. I hope to get that done this week. I'm on the roll.
Have a great day

First finish for 2013 and progress in my WIP

I finished a bag I started I while ago. Its for taking to class and carry the cutting mat, ruler and all the little things you need for sewing. The panel was just the right thing for it.
front of bag
backside
I used separable zippers on the side.
So when not in use I can use it to hang it on the wall to store all those things.
bag open
those are the loops to either close the bag or hang it on the wall
The pattern is from a old German magazine, I think 2006, yupp sometime I need a little time, lol
Then I went ahead and sewed the pinwheels for the summer at mom's Quilt.
I'm working on the border now. I might meet my own dead line and finish this Quilt by the end of January.
I also finished the row of pinwheels for the row swap I'm in. But I wont be able to show a picture until it gets to my swap partner.
So pictures are for another post.
Hugs

WIP for January

My work in progress for this month is a Quilt designed by Beth Hayes and called summer at mom's. The pattern is from a McCalls Quilting Magazine. With this pattern I can use a bunch of my scraps. Lol. They seem to breed in the boxes.
First I had to cut all the fabric for the the 35 pinwheel's in the middle of the quilt and sew the half squares.
That went quick so I thought I cut and sew the 124 half squares for the outer border already too.
Wow I was on the roll.
Ok, than I went ahead to sew the 4 smaller pinwheels for the border too.
I hope to find time to sew the pinwheels for the middle and put the Quilt together before the end of this month.
But before I can put the pinwheels for the quilt together I need to sew my next row for the row swap that I'm in.
Guess what I need to sew - yes , pinwheels but this time in bright and scrappy colors.
